Alumna named interim president

At its May meeting, the Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning named Allegra Brigham ‘69 interim president of Mississippi University for Women. She replaces retiring president Claudia A. Limbert.

The upcoming search for a permanent president for MUW was also discussed at the meeting.

"We hope Allegra will seek support from the faculty and staff, the community, the IHL Board and the local delegation, and all alums during this interim,” stated Lillian Wade, president of Mississippi's First Alumnae Association. “We are looking forward to participating in the national search process for a new president and believe the university can attract an experienced leader to successfully lead us to a positive future."

Brigham, who earned a master’s degree from the W in 1973, most recently served as CEO and general manager of 4 County Electric Power Association. She was a faculty member at MUW in the 1980s, served a stint as acting head of the journalism and broadcasting department and was Director of Public Relations for the university. Previously, she worked as a reporter and editor at The Commercial Dispatch.
