Barbara White '75 Bio

I graduated from MUW in 1975 with a double major in history and library science. Since graduation I have earned a master’s degree in History from George Washington University in Washington, DC and have worked primarily for federal agencies including the National Archives and Records Administration, the Defense Intelligence Agency, and the Internal Revenue Service.

I moved home to Mississippi several years ago and have been caring for my mother who suffers from Alzheimer’s. I helped to write the non-recipe text and sidebars for Southern Grace, our MUW Alumnae cookbook, in 2003 and doing that project gave Susan Rayner Puckett and me the idea to begin the Alumnae Oral History Project in 2004. The interviews that we did with “Golden Girls” became a portion of the new book, Golden Days, which our own Southern Women’s Institute has recently published

I feel strongly that MUW should retain its women’s mission and would like to continue to work to preserve the institution’s unique history.
