MFAeA Free Speech Zone - Issue 1, June 2009

Whatever your thoughts and feelings pertaining to MUW President Claudia Limbert, certainly she has given us “something to talk about.” W alums have stepped forward in public speaking engagements, letters to the editor, blog posts, Facebook postings, talk radio – just about everywhere and anywhere to exercise their right to “speak” freely without censorship or limitation.

In this issue, we are sharing with you MUW Senior Class President Anne Franklin Lamar's Commencement address; MUW Center for Women's Research and Public Policy Director Dr. Bridget Smith Pieschel's 2009 Mag Chain address; Jimmie Meese Moomaw's impassioned personal statement delivered on the steps of Orr at Homecoming 2009; and Neely Woods Hunter's counter to Dr. Limbert's focus on an university name change.

In reading the opinion pieces featured in “The Free Speech Zone,” you've moved in to a dimension of ideas, of shades of gray, of point and counterpoint. We hope you enjoy this glimpse and will visit often.
