Friends of the W

Friends of the W is a group of more than 600 alumni, individuals, businessmen and women committed to defining a contemporary interpretation of MUW's historic mission. Specifically, the group supports keeping the current name of the university, and strengthening marketing efforts as well as the emphasis on the education of women. Friends of the W does not represent the university or any of its affiliated or disaffiliated associations

The co-coordinators are Lynne Schneider and Suzanne Scanlon. Jan McSpadden is treasurer/secretary. Donations, gifts and correspondence should be directed the Jan McSpadden, 108 Savannah Square, Ridgeland MS 39157.

Periodically, the group produces an electronic newsletter edited by B.R. Hawkins. Participation in Friends is voluntary and is open to all who are interested in support efforts to define a contemporary interpretation of MUW's historical mission. In March of this year, Friends of the W hosted a coffee at the state capitol which was followed by a luncheon for legislators and elected officials.

Friends will host a reception honoring the 2010 Mississippi State Legislature at 6:30 p.m., Monday, Jan. 11, 2010 at the Old Capitol Inn, 226 North State St., Jackson. Contact Jenny Katool at jkatool@comcast.net to volunteer on the reception committee

If you wish to support the efforts of Friends of the W and want to have your name included on a roster of Friends which will be used in letters to legislators, officials and decision-makers much like signatures on a petition, send an e-mail to brhawkins@me.com
