MUW will host a reception honoring all of the women who are featured in the book "Golden Days," including members of the original MUWAAE oral history committee Susan Rayner Puckett and Barbara White, the MUW Southern Women's Institute student interns and interviewers, and the featured MSCW alumnae interviewees, our "Golden Girls."
The reception, a part of MUW's 125th Anniversary Celebration, will be on Friday, January 30th, 5-7 p.m. in Puckett House on the MUW campus.
“This festive celebration will be a wonderful opportunity for all alumni to visit with the student and alumnae participants in the Southern Women's Institute Golden Girls Oral History Project.,” said Dr. Bridget Smith Pieschel, Class of 1979, Director of the Oral History Project and of the Southern Women's Institute. “I want everyone to realize that this SWI project is a true student/alumnae collaboration, and 'Golden Days: Reminiscences of MSCW Alumnae – 1926-1957,' a book we can all be proud of, is the fruit of many laborers. Any profits from the books sold at this event will go directly back into the Southern Women's Institute's Oral History Fund to pay for transcriptions, computer supplies, and travel to interviews.
“I personally will be excited to be able to ask many of the featured alumnae in Golden Days to autograph their 'senior portraits' at the beginning of their interview sections in my own copy of the book.”
This event honors all of the Southern Women Institute's Oral History Project Participants whose memories and work culminated in the recently published book "Golden Days - Reminiscences of Alumnae, Mississippi State College for Women: 1926-1957." The book features twenty "Golden Girls" who graduated at least fifty years ago from Mississippi State College for Women. Begun as a project by the Oral History committee of the MUW Alumnae Association and continued by MUW at the Southern Women's Institute, the book is a true collaboration between alumnae and students. Many of the participants will be there to sign their portions of the book.
Book sales at the reception will directly benefit the Southern Women's Institute Oral History Project.
