Jane Dearing Dennis ’80 Bio

Jane Dearing Dennis, a native of Holly Grove, Ark., is a 1980 graduate of Mississippi University for Women. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Journalism and a minor in Library Science. While a student at the W, she served on the Spectator staff, was a member of Sigma Delta Chi, Women in Communications Inc., Student Government Association and Hottentots and was president of Lancer Social Club. She has served on the MUW Alumnae Association Board of Directors twice previously, during the tenures of past presidents Adelaide Williams Fletcher and Beth Buckley Aldridge.

During her 29-year career in journalism, she has served as News Editor for the Twin City Tribune in West Helena, Ark.; Style editor of the Arkansas Democrat, Little Rock; and for the last 21 years editor and columnist for the Arkansas United Methodist newspaper. She was named Communicator of the Year in 2007 by the United Methodist Association of Communicators.

Jane is a founding member and charter president of the Arkansas Chapter of the MUW Alumnae Association. She is past president of Little Rock Civitan Club, past chairperson of the Board of Directors for Arkansas Rice Depot and a member of the Board of Trustees of St. James United Methodist Church.

Jane and her husband, Robert, live in Little Rock, Ark., and are the parents of two daughters, Lindsey, 16, and Sidney, 13.
