Thomas “Mack” Spencer, MUW '97 Bio

I was a Centennial Scholar at the W and graduated with a BA in journalism with a minor in music in 1997. I am now editor, staff writer and photographer of The Monitor-Herald in Calhoun City, my hometown. This is my second stint at The Monitor-Herald; I also worked as education reporter at the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal in Tupelo and as general assignment reporter and area editor at The Commercial Dispatch in Columbus, as well as teaching two years for the Calhoun County School District.

My civic involvements include memberships in the Calhoun City Rotary Club; the Calhoun City, Bruce and Vardaman chambers of commerce; Lewis Memorial United Methodist Church; the Mississippi Sweet Potato Council; the Tupelo Duplicate Bridge Club and American Contract Bridge League. Professionally, I am a member of the National Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association and an award winner in the Mississippi Press Association.

I am proud to be a current board member of Mississippi's First Alumnae Association, the former MUW Alumnae Association, as well as a member of Friends of the W. I look forward to helping the association move forward into the future in these challenging times.
