Kym Golden Gore '97
President-Elect

As the Association moves forward, I welcome the opportunity to work on behalf of the alumni to continue the Association’s work and to advance the mission of the Association – to support the W.  In addition to our work to provide scholarships and financial support to the University, to maintain a close friendship and support network for the faculty, and to recruit students, as alumni, we also have a unique opportunity to reach out to students, the future members of the Long Blue Line, on an individual basis based on our individual talents and areas of expertise.

I was born and raised in Columbus, and my parents dragged me, kicking and screaming, to the W.  By the end of the first day, I was madly in love with the W.  I graduated in 1997 with a degree in English, married Ray Gore, my college sweetheart, in 1998, and moved to Jackson to attend Mississippi College School of Law.  After graduating and passing the Mississippi bar in 2001, I began practicing law with Brunini, Grantham, Grower & Hewes.  Shortly after, Ray received a job offer in Tampa, so in May 2002, we moved.  After passing the Florida bar, I served as a law clerk in one of the circuit courts for a few months before beginning a clerkship with a federal magistrate judge.  I later practiced law in the Tampa office of Phelps Dunbar before we moved back to Mississippi in 2006 so Ray could take a new job. I currently work as a law clerk for the Chief Judge of the Mississippi Court of Appeals, and I love my job.  Unfortunately, it requires me to commute to Jackson on a weekly basis, so when my term is up at the end of July, I will be back in Columbus full-time, where Ray and our only “child,” our yellow Lab, have been “holding down the fort.”

I became involved in the Association last spring, participating in the facilitated meetings.  I have been deeply upset with the events of the past year and the erosion of the relationship between the Association and the administration.  Following those meetings, I was asked to serve as Chair of the Constitution and By-Laws Committee. I was thrilled and humbled to be asked to serve on the Board.
