Summer Board Meeting Preview, July 10-11

By Lynne Lott Schneider, MUW Class of ‘91
Mississippi’s First Alumnae Association, the original and historic association of Mississippi University for Women alumnae, will hold its summer meeting for the year 2009-2010 on July 10 and 11 in Columbus, MS.
Association president Anghaarad Teague noted that all MFAeA members are invited to attend the weekend’s events and added that association meetings are also open to the public. Teague observed that “while we have four meetings a year to conduct the business of the association, the summer meeting is more like a retreat. It is a real working meeting designed to promote brainstorming and intensive discussion of all the planned events and projects the association will implement throughout the year.”
When MFAeA re-wrote by-laws in 2007, the size of the Board was reduced and the role of committees was enhanced to invite and utilize the broadest possible level of participation and input and to encourage all committee members to attend Board meetings where the work of the association is done. Committees currently scheduled to hold meetings at summer retreat are: Technology, Public Relations, Constitution and By-Laws, Special Events, Chapter Development and Elections. Teague said “We really want to see all committee members present on Saturday for some good face-to-face meeting time.”
The weekend will begin with dinner at Proffit’s Porch on Friday night, followed by informal discussions. On Saturday all events of the association will take place at the MUW Wesley Foundation. The day will begin with a light breakfast. The morning meeting will be devoted to committee meetings. The formal business meeting will begin at 1:00 and will include progress reports and recommendations from the committees and any pertinent new business brought to the Board’s attention.
Members who plan to attend should note that you are responsible for the cost of your Friday dinner at Proffitt’s Porch and the box lunch on Saturday. For those who will need accommodations, a block of rooms has been reserved at the Holiday Inn of Columbus. Call the hotel at 1-662-327-7077 and ask for the MFAeA rooms to receive a discounted rate.
